Whatsthescore.co.uk was created in the latter months of 2009. It has 3 founder members all linked via Chorlton cum Hardy Golf course in South Manchester.
Andy and Kevin Gray are brothers from Yorkshire and have a background in IT programming and Pharmaceutical sales respectively. Both are amateur golfers and hope one day to win a major at the club; neither have been close...yet!
Dave Valentine is presently the Club Golf Professional and has worked across the Northwest on numerous courses. Although he had great prospects in his youth he claims an injury robbed him of greater success.
Where did the idea come from?
This year after an impressive 4 under on day 1 of Captains day (a 2 day competition) Andy was desperate to know where he was positioned going into the final day. After numerous unsuccessful phone calls he had to go down to the course to see the leader board − taking a lot of valuable time and effort on a Saturday night.
He was 2nd going into the final day, however, on leaving the course his light bulb moment happened and he questioned himself to how this information could be communicated more effectively: Whatsthescore.co.uk was born... in case you're interested he had an average round on day 2 and finished 8th!
How did the idea evolve?
On hearing the idea, Kev and Dave agreed that this new way of sharing results and information could bring the club together and provide a medium for improved communication.
Kev set about writing the business plan and Dave promoted the idea to all our members and tested the water with other clubs in the area. Most people agreed there were advantages of the website, hence we have invested lots of time and brain strain on getting to this stage.
The website is continually evolving and we are striving to improve it's functionality every day.
