The Preferred Lie local rule, which has been in operation for the Fairways only, during the early part of this winter has, with immediate effect, been extended to allow a player to Lift, Clean and Place a ball Through the Green on all holes (i.e. this now allows a player to prefer his/her lie in the semi-rough and rough).

This amendment has been introduced to reflect the current ground conditions and to improve members’ enjoyment of the course when playing competition golf during the winter. In past winters, the Preferred Lies local rule has been allowed Through the Green on Holes 4 and 11, however the Ground Committee feel that this should be extended to include all 18 holes this winter.

16th Hole:

If a player’s ball lies in the fairway area on the 16th Hole marked by posts, it MUST be lifted and placed in the rough at the point nearest to where the ball originally lay. The ball may be cleaned when lifted. Players must not play a ball from within the marked area.

The aim of this local rule is to protect the 16th fairway during the winter months.

The annual winter Verti-Draining work on the course will commence on Monday 7th December and will run into the following week.

During the first week, work will be concentrated on the Greens, Tees and green surrounds. Work on the fairways will follow and will run into the week commencing 14th December.

To allow this Verti-Draining program to be carried out, it will be necessary to come off all greens and to use the temporary greens whilst the work is underway. We plan to return to the 'summer' greens after the ground staff have re-cut the greens as soon as the verti-draining has been carried out on a hole by hole basis.

We will also need to close down the ‘summer tees’ during the work and mats will be repositioned.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused during the period of this work, which will assist winter play, particularly if we experience a wet and mild winter.
